Daiki history

He was born to mother Amane and father Satoshi on February 13th - a Friday at 1300. If that wasn't unlucky enough, he not only had a weak heart but also a laundry list of powerful psychic powers. To hopefully combat all of this they gave him the name Daiki, meaning "shining". Unfortunately misfortune seemed to follow him around in the form of near-constant bad luck. It started off with small things like a toy breaking or ending up lost, tripping over easily avoided objects or just getting sick all of the time. He was also unable to take part in normal childhood activities due to his heart, thus making it so he had very few friends his age.

Then just before he turned six years old things took a turn for the worst and his parents died in a car crash. Daiki was actually in the backseat and while he had minor injuries, his heart condition got worse. He was in the stuck in the hospital for several months and even spent his birthday there. Four months after his sixth birthday, his heart completely gave out and he died for approximately five minutes.

While doctors worked to bring him back to life, Daiki was having a conversation with a Reaper who came to collect his soul. The Reaper introduced himself as Kuro - "Black" and offered the small boy a deal. Another chance to live but to become a host for the Reaper with the option to end it whenever he wanted, though that would also mean Daiki would die. Sensing that the Reaper was not a bad individual, he accepted the deal and was successfully revived by the doctors. No one believed him when he spoke of what happened and was placed with a therapist who tried to talk him out of this idea.

However Daiki knew the truth because he could speak to the Reaper inside of his body and Kuro would also still do his job using his host. The Reaper started helping the boy learn to properly control his powers and even gave him access to a few of his own. What was most surprising was Daiki's physical recovery. While he still had a semi-weak heart, it was also better than it had ever been and allowed him to do all sorts of activities that he hadn't been able to before. There were a few limitations such as not being able to run long distances/periods of time or become part of a swim team but it was much more than he'd been allowed before.

Eventually, he left the hospital's care and was placed in an orphanage with other children where Daiki continued to experience a string of bad luck. Breaking items, being late because something happened in front of him, others getting hurt around him. At seven years old, Daiki asked why the Reaper's name was Kuro and it was replied that he picked the name because he couldn't remember his own. So after months of searching for a suitable one, they both settled on the name Tsuneo.

At the age of eight, he was taken in by a nice young couple. Then catastrophe struck again until his first set of foster parents, where one caught a serious illness and ended up passing away from it. After the death of the husband, Daiki attempted to comfort the wife - using his abilities in order to do by reading both her emotions and her thoughts. Unfortunately this had the opposite effect and the wife became scared of him and sent him back to the orphanage.

Rumors started up, whispered behind his back about how he was not just unlucky but also cursed. It didn't help when Daiki would point out people who were about to die, in an attempt to warn them but it merely made them fear him. Or when he'd pick up on their emotions or thoughts no matter how well they hide them. At the age of eleven and then again at thirteen, he was taken in twice more by foster parents but both had some sort of tragedy befall them and he once again ended up right back in the system. The other kids were afraid of him, left him alone and wouldn't include him in their games.

All the while, Tsuneo was doing his job and was the only person who didn't seem to fear him at all. Daiki stopped talking about his "invisible friend" who was always with him and distanced himself from just about everyone. As he got older, his powers became stronger - which meant that the thoughts and feelings of everyone on the planet could reach him. He started wearing headphones as a way to help drown out the noise whenever possible.

When he started his second year of high school, a new kid was transferred in - one who had no idea about Daiki's past or history. His name is Ryota Abe and for some reason, took an interest in Daiki no matter how much the other students tried to warn him off. At first, Daiki tried to push the other teen away but the guy was extremely persistent. Then he realized something else... Daiki could not sense his emotions or hear his thoughts - no matter how much he focused. This had never happened before seeing as how he could even sense Tsuneo's emotions and they shared thoughts regularly.

So he stopped trying to push Ryota away and accepted him as a friend, while attempting to figure out why the other was immune to his power. In fact, whenever Ryota was around it seemed as if the rest of the world was quieter - not completely but more tolerable.

Tsuneo history

The Reaper doesn't remember much about his own history, only that he's been doing this job for an extremely long time. He even forgot his name and was simply called "Kuro" (Black) by other Reapers and higher-ups. Kuro was hanging around Tokyo collecting souls when he the Chinen family died in a terrible car accident. While he reaped the parents, Kuro could sense the power of their son and made him a deal. As Reapers don't have physical bodies of their own, they can only interact in a different dimension as the living. So for the opportunity to gain a physical form, Kuro said he could allow the boy to continue living if Daiki would let the Reaper possess him. The boy accepted.

After about a year of cohabiting the same body, Daiki gave him a proper name - Tsuneo (meaning: a permanent man). Tsuneo continues his job of reaping while also getting the opportunity to experience human life.
